The film Polar Happiness shown at the Presidential Library
On February 25, 2022 as part of the conference Arctic Day at the Presidential Library, the film Polar Happiness was shown. The director and scriptwriter of the film is the legendary polar explorer Vladimir Strugatsky.
The film Polar Happiness told about the amazing life of Alexei Treshnikov, an academician, an outstanding polar explorer and head of the Russian Geographical Society from 1977 to 1991. He participated in twenty-two expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic, high-latitude air expeditions North-2 and North-4, was the head of the drifting station North Pole - 3. Alexei Treshnikov was the author of the detailed Atlas of the Antarctic (1966–1969), editor-in-chief of the Atlas of the Arctic, Geographical Encyclopedic Dictionary (1988–1989), one of the authors of the D-SELF theory of self-organization and self-regulation of natural systems. The Vostok Antarctic station, which was created under his leadership, is still in operation.
The name of Alexei Treshnikov is a small planet discovered in 1978. A bay, located in the southern part of the Davis Sea - off the coast of Antarctica, was named in honor of him in 1998. And in 2011, the scientific expedition vessel for the Arctic expedition Akademik Tryoshnikov was launched.
