Donbass writers visited the Presidential Library

On May 20, 2022 writers from Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics visited the Presidential Library on a tour as part of the XVII St. Petersburg International Book Salon.

During the study visit, the guests learned many interesting facts about the Synod historic building, which houses the Presidential Library today, and its architectural features. For example, about the fact that during the reconstruction of the premises, the open courtyard was transformed into a conference hall, where today state and public events, including those of the highest level, are held. The guests were also told about the restored house Church of the Holy Fathers of the Seven Ecumenical Councils.

The guests signed up for the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library in order to be able to use unique historical materials. To date, the library collections contain more than a million depository items. In the electronic reading room, the guests learned the details about the activities of the library. Combining historical traditions and the latest technology, the Presidential Library forms a national electronic resource, where books and periodicals, archival historical documents, newsreel, photo and video materials, scientific and educational films on the history of Russian statehood are collected in digital form.

In the exhibition halls, guests from Donbass learned about two expositions dedicated to the 350th anniversary of Peter I at once. “The well-being of the Russian creator...” – this is the name of the exhibition located in the first exhibition hall. The exposition materials reveal the history of the creation of the fleet and the regular army by the Russian emperor, introduce them to the reforms in the field of public administration: the establishment of the Senate and the Synod, the formation of the executive authorities – the boards.

The exhibition in the second hall is a joint project of the Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State University "Great Peter introduced science to us...". The exposition spotlights the emperor's contribution to the development of Russian science and scientific education.

The Presidential Library’s guests also visited the multimedia transforming hall, where conferences, video lectures, film club meetings, multimedia lessons for schoolchildren and students are held. Thanks to the latest technical equipment it is now possible to take part in events through video conferencing not only from any region of Russia but also from abroad.

Guests from Donbass and representatives of the Presidential Library also discussed the prospects for cooperation in the framework of scientific, educational and outreach activities.
