The second stage of the Presidential Library’s Interactive Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” comes to an end

16 January 2023

On January 20, 2023, the second stage of the Interactive Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” in individual subjects, such as history, social studies and Russian language, for high school pupils and students mastering the educational programs of secondary vocational education in arts from Russia and foreign countries comes to an end.

Within the framework of the competition, students will have an opportunity to test their knowledge in each of the disciplines, or to choose only one subject of their liking. The overall results of the competition will be based on the individual results of participants. Winners will be awarded diplomas.

The Olympiad takes place from September 21, 2022 until March 17, 2023, and consists of three mandatory stages. The first stage was completed on November 30, 2022. The second stage is organized through the remote knowledge testing system from December 20, 2022 to January 20, 2023. The final stage will be held offline on March 15-17, 2023. Finalists from St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region will meet at Senate Square, 3, and participants from other cities – at the regional sites of the institution’s remote electronic reading rooms.

Tasks of the Olympiad are based on the materials from the Presidential Library’s collections. Therefore, exploring resources on the institution’s official portal can help students to answer the questions of the Olympiad as accurately as possible. Participants can also try their hand in tasks from previous years, available on the project’s website in the Archive section.

The main goal of the competition is to introduce students to working with archival information sources on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, as the Presidential Library’s electronic collections contain over a million of digitized copies of rare documents which present the cultural heritage of the country. The event aims at finding and supporting young talents, popularizing humanitarian knowledge among young people.

The Olympiad “Russia in the Electronic World” has been created by the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg University of Economics. Co-organizers of the event are the Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University and the Southwest State University.

Last year, over 3,000 schoolchildren and students from 66 regions of Russia and 9 foreign countries took part in the event. During the long existence of the interactive educational project – since 2010, about 55,000 people gave it a try, many of whom later enrolled in leading Russian universities.
