The Presidential Library’s exhibition opened in India
On January 25, 2023 the Russian House in Mumbai hosted an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad and the next anniversary of the liberation of the city from the Nazi siege, within which the Defence of Leningrad exhibition provided by the Presidential Library, was opened.
Consul General of Russia in Mumbai Alexei Surovtsev and Director of the Russian House in Mumbai Elena Remizova addressed the event participants with a welcoming speech.
Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov welcomed the event participants: “The photographs presented in the exposition convey the atmosphere of besieged Leningrad. Despite the constant bombing, hunger and cold, people did not lose hope, believed in victory, fought the enemy and defended their native city”.
At the exhibition, opened in the Russian House in Mumbai, the photographs of the TASS news agency reflect the daily work of the residents and defenders of Leningrad. The photographs show soldiers of the Red Army and the people's militia, sanitary troopers, townspeople harvesting firewood and workers in production, city streets and disguised monuments, fireworks in honor of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege and etc.
The Defence of Leningrad exposition is part of the digitized exhibition project of the Presidential Library We won because we were united, dedicated to the role of the peoples of the Soviet Union in the Great Victory. Documents, photographs, newspaper publications reflect the defence of Leningrad, the battle near Moscow, the Battle of Stalingrad and Kursk. Special attention is paid to the liberation of Kyiv and all Ukraine from the Nazis by the Red Army. The battles for Minsk, Chisinau, the Berlin offensive operation and the Victory Parade in Moscow are also shown.
The Presidential Library’s portal presents the electronic collection Memory of the Great Victory, which contains official documents, photos and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, memoirs of participants in the battles and home front workers, photographs and postcards, as well as the collection Defence and Siege of Leningrad, preserving the chronicle of the tragic pages in the history of our country.
The Presidential Library’s portal features the electronic collection Russia - India: History of Relations. It includes travelers' notes, historical research, dictionaries, archival and visual materials that cover the history of India from ancient times to the present day, as well as the history of Russian-Indian state, economic and cultural relations throughout the 19th-21st centuries.
