A lesson of courage at the Regional Center of the Presidential Library of Komi Republic marked the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad
On January 27, 2023 marking the 79th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege, specialists of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library of Komi Republic at the National Library of Komi Republic held a lesson of courage for students of the Syktyvkar College of Trade and Economics. The event marked the 80th anniversary of the breaking of the siege of Leningrad.
At the lesson, its participants learned about the hard life of Leningrad residents in the besieged city. The schoolchildren were told about the ingredients from which bread was prepared and what daily allowance each resident received. The students learned about the tragic fate of the Leningrad schoolgirl Tanya Savicheva, the author of the siege diary. The guys discussed why the path through Lake Ladoga, which passed through the ice in winter, was called the Road of Life.
At the end of the event the students also made a virtual tour around the State Memorial Museum of the Defence and Siege of Leningrad and watched video materials prepared by the specialists of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library.
The memoirs of the city residents, who survived the horror of the siege, are, perhaps, one of the most important parts of the major electronic collection of the Presidential Library Defence and Siege of Leningrad. These artifacts - memoirs, handwritten diaries, letters from relatives and friends - were brought to the Presidential Library by readers. Unique materials were digitized and posted on the institution's portal.
