Penza schoolchildren learned about the development of education in Ancient Rus'

Specialists of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Lermontov Penza Regional Library held an informative lesson on the development of education in Ancient Rus' for third-graders of school № 11.

Schoolchildren were shown materials from the Presidential Library’s collections. In particular, rare editions of alphabets and primers were presented.

According to the organizers, the illustrated edition of Karion Istomin's Primer (1694), which became the best textbook of its time, aroused particular interest among the pupils. The Presidential Library’s portal also features the Primer Book in Pictures (1904), created by the artist Alexander Benois, which attracts attention with its colorful and intricate plots.

As part of the event, the children read the fables of Ivan Krylov, learned about the old folk game "Bird and Cages", and also put together a map of Penza Region from puzzles.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Penza Region: Pages of History. It includes archival documents, essays, studies, statistical and other materials covering various aspects of the development of the region in different historical periods.
