Penza schoolchildren told about the history of space exploration

18 February 2023

On February 16, 2023 specialists of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Lermontov Penza Regional Library held an educational lesson on the development of astronautics for first grade pupils of school № 64.

The schoolchildren were shown exhibits from the Penza Planetarium: models of the first artificial Earth satellite and space stations, an astrolabe and a star globe.

During the "space journey" schoolchildren were told about planets and comets, asteroids and meteorites, solar and lunar eclipses. Young readers made a model of the solar system and learned a mnemonic poem to remember the planets. The children learned about how in the past science fiction writers described technical devices for flying into space.

At the lesson, the pupils were told about the resources of the Presidential Library dedicated to space topics. Thus, the collection Outer Space contains fragments of newsreels, books, periodicals and other materials that spotlight various milestones in the history of the development of astronautics. It also includes a set of postcards Man in Space with reproductions of the works of the great cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, who was a talented artist. At the end of the event, the schoolchildren took commemorative photographs against the background of one of his paintings.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Penza Region: Pages of History. It includes archival documents, essays, studies, statistical and other materials covering various aspects of the development of the region in different historical periods.
