Penza schoolchildren learned about the life and career of the outstanding Russian poet Vasily Zhukovsky

Specialists of the Lermontov Penza Regional Library and the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library held a practice-oriented lesson "The Romantic of Russian Poetry" for pupils of school № 79. The event marked the 240th anniversary of the outstanding poet, translator, mentor Alexander II, author of the words of the State Anthem of the Russian Empire "God Save the Tsar!" Vasily Zhukovsky.

The children were told about the life and creative heritage of the "Russian balladeer". Schoolchildren were shown digitized portraits of the classic, presented in the collections of institutions. In addition, paintings created by Vasily Zhukovsky himself, who was a talented artist, were also available.

At the lesson, the pupils were told about the Presidential Library’s resources dedicated to the poet. The collection Vasily Zhukovsky (1783–1852) contains his works, archival documents, studies of life and career, diaries, correspondence and other materials. According to the organizers, the fairy tale “How Mice Buried a Cat” (1910) aroused particular interest among the students.

At the event, the children took part in an exciting quiz and took memorable photographs in the electronic reading room.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Penza Region: Pages of History. It includes archival documents, essays, studies, statistical and other materials covering various aspects of the development of the region in different historical periods.
