On April 14, the 55th plenary session of the IPA CIS was held at the headquarters of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States – in the Tauride Palace.

The meeting was led by Chairman of the IPA CIS Council, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko and was attended by heads of the Commonwealth parliaments, representatives of partner international parliamentary organizations, experts.

The participants reviewed a number of important environmental bills, as well as documents regulating the processes of digitalization in the economy and the use of artificial intelligence.

The event was attended by Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov. Cooperation between the Secretariat of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Presidential Library is actively developing. Within the framework of the agreement, which was signed in February 2023, the organizations cooperate in the scientific, cultural, educational and expert-legal spheres, as well as carry out joint activities to preserve the cultural heritage of the Commonwealth countries. One of the important areas of cooperation is the transfer of digital copies of model laws and other documents adopted by the Assembly to the library’s holdings in order to ensure their storage and accessibility for a wide range of readers.

The Presidential Library stores digital copies of more than a million book publications, archival documents, photographs and other materials on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, and the Russian language. The portal features digital collections dedicated to all states of the Commonwealth. Centers of remote access to the library’s collections have been opened in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan – in 33 countries in total.

In December 2022, a protocol of intent was signed to form an Association of Presidential Libraries; this decision was supported by the presidential libraries of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia. Such an organization is being created for the first time and will have an international status.
