The exhibition dedicated to the feat of diplomats during the Holocaust opened at the Regional Center of the Presidential Library

On April 17, 2023 the V. G. Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library opened the exhibition “Not on duty, but on the call of the heart: diplomats awarded the title of Righteous Among the Nations”.

The exposition is dedicated to the Memorial Day of the Catastrophe and Heroism of European Jewry - the national day of mourning in Israel, which was established in memory of the Jews killed by the Nazis. The exhibition was prepared jointly with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli Embassy in Russia and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Complex in Jerusalem.

The exposition tells about employees of diplomatic services from different countries, who during the years of the Holocaust, risking themselves, provided assistance to Jews. The exhibition includes archival materials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on the history of Russian-Israeli diplomatic relations, and exhibits provided by the Holocaust Research and Education Center.

The opening ceremony was attended by: Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Yekaterinburg Alexander Kharlov, Commissioner for Human Rights in Sverdlovsk Region Tatyana Merzlyakova, Deputy Minister of International and Foreign Economic Relations of Sverdlovsk Region Lyudmila Berg, Deputy Minister of Culture of Sverdlovsk Region Roman Dorokhin.

Everyone has an opportunity to learn about the exhibition materials until April 29, 2023.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the collection Sverdlovsk Region: Pages of History. It includes statistical materials, studies, essays and photographs of the 19th - early 20th centuries that spotlight various aspects of the development of the region.
