The Presidential Library attended the discussion of the future of libraries in the CIS countries

On April 20, 2023 the Presidential Library’s specialists attended the VI International Forum "Shaping the Future of Libraries". This year's theme is "Commonwealth Libraries in a Global Context".

The event is held within the framework of the forum "Library dialogue of the CIS countries", organized by the Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature with the support of the Interstate Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation (IFHC). An extensive dialogue program is taking place in two Russian cities: Moscow and St. Petersburg. The forum enters the list of unique projects implemented within the framework of the “CIS Cultural Capital 2023” program. The forum was attended by leading experts - leaders of the library industry.

President of the Russian Library Association, Director of the Russian State Historical Library Mikhail Afanasiev, President of the Library Assembly of Eurasia, Director General of the Russian State Library Vadim Duda, Director General of the Rudomino All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature Pavel Kuzmin greeted the participants.

At the end of his speech, Pavel Kuzmin read out a greeting to the forum participants from the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, Nadezhda Prepodobnaya. She noted the importance of the participation of 30 young librarians from the CIS countries in the event and wished everyone fruitful work.

Tamara Nosenko, Head of the Department for Preparation and Implementation of Projects of the IFHC, read out a greeting from the Executive Director of the IFHC Anatoly Iksanov. In his address, the executive director noted that this year the CIS Library Dialogue forum is already 10 years old, and expressed confidence that the forum will develop, providing the libraries of the Commonwealth countries with the opportunity to create new partnerships and multilateral projects, expanding the common territory of culture.

During the forum, the participants discussed the content of the document “TrendReport IFLA 2022” in relation to the activities and needs of libraries in the CIS countries and its main sections: "Inspire", "Involve", "Support", "Combine". The report was inspired by library leaders around the world and covers a wide range of topics, including advocacy for libraries, their role in political processes, innovation, education, and more.
