Documentary films, video lectures and musical meetings in the Presidential Library available online

The history of the Grand Kremlin Palace and the music of great composers, the traditions of the Karl May school and the search for the first sound Soviet cartoon are now available thanks to broadcasts on the TV Channel of the Presidential Library from October 1 to 15.

On October 1, International Music Day, musical works by Gliere, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Verdi, Bizet, Rossini and other famous composers, performed by honored artists of Russia, soloists of the country’s leading theaters, winners of international competitions will be available on the library’s portal. All speeches are united by the theme of Russian statehood and the history of our country. The concert with the participation of the State Kremlin Orchestra of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation took place in the Presidential Library as part of the anniversary XXV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.   

Video lectures dedicated to the career of the poet and his significance for world culture are timed to coincide with the next anniversary of the birth of Sergei Yesenin on October 3. It will also be possible to find out little-known facts from the personal life of Sergei Yesenin - for example, details of the foreign tour of Europe and the USA, which he made together with Isadora Duncan.

On October 5, International Teachers’ Day, the portal will show the Presidential Library’s documentary film “The Art Teacher. The story of one magazine”, the hero of which was an art teacher from Staraya Russa, publisher of the all-Russian magazine for children about art “Vvedenskaya Storona” Nikolai Lokotkov. In turn, the video film “Teachers of Peter I”, filmed using materials from the electronic collections of the Presidential Library, tells about the first fifteen years of education of Emperor Peter I, about his life in country residences in Preobrazhenskoye and Izmailovo, in the Moscow German settlement.

In the video lecture “The school, the country, the world are proud of them” the founder and director of the Museum of the History of the Karl May School, a graduate of this educational institution in 1949, Nikita Blagovo will tell about the students of the school who became famous government and military figures. Among them are Rear Admiral Pyotr Rimsky-Korsakov, writer Lev Uspensky, artists Alexander Benois, Nicholas Roerich, Valentin Serov, Konstantin Somov. During the Soviet years, cosmonaut Georgy Grechko and academician Dmitry Likhachev graduated from this educational institution.

On October 7, the birthday of Russian head of state Vladimir Putin, the films prepared as part of the “Presidential Chronicle” project will be shown on the library’s portal. The film “Symbols of Presidential Power” tells the story of the creation of symbols of presidential power. Today, the symbols of presidential power are the Standard (flag) of the President of the Russian Federation and the Badge of the President of the Russian Federation.  

Film “The State Residence of the President of Russia. The Grand Kremlin Palace" is dedicated to a unique monument of architecture and history of Russia. The Great Imperial Palace, today known as the Great Kremlin Palace, served as the main Moscow imperial residence. Currently, this is the ceremonial residence of the head of state, where inauguration ceremonies of the President of the Russian Federation, presentation of state awards, important negotiations, meetings, conferences and special events take place.

In addition, thanks to the films of the “Presidential Chronicle” project, one can visit the personal library of the head of state - the Library of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, the Archive of the President of Russia, get an idea of ​​the activities of the Presidential Administration for dealing with appeals from citizens and organizations and the three-level system of the Reception of the President of the Russian Federation (receptions in centers of federal districts, reception centers in the constituent entities of Russia, electronic reception terminals).   

The documentary film “In Search of the Lost Mail” is timed to coincide with World Post Day, which is celebrated on October 9. The film adaptation of the famous children's poem “Mail” by Samuil Marshak was released in 1929 and aroused interest all over the world. Already in 1930, artist and director Mikhail Tsekhanovsky released a new, voice-over version of “Mail,” which became the first Soviet sound cartoon. By the end of the 1950s, this version was considered lost. The plot of the film “In Search of the Lost Mail” was the search for the sound version of the cartoon. Film scholars Nikolai Izvolov and Sergei Kapterev talk about the search for cinematic works, about the investigation of the facts of their history, about people who devote their lives to film research, archivists, critics and museum workers.

Also, as part of the educational project of the Presidential Library “Video lecture Knowledge of Russia” from October 1 to 15, one will be able to learn about higher women’s education in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century; about the history of monetary circulation in Soviet Russia in the 1920s; about the human personality in Mikhail Lermontov’s novel “A Hero of Our Time”; about what “iron” Felix Dzerzhinsky really was; about the era of L. I. Brezhnev in Soviet history and much more.

Especially for students, video lectures are shown on the Presidential Library’s portal, the topics of which reveal and complement the school curriculum. The topic of the video lecture Knowledge of Russia spotlights the main directions of the formation of the Presidential Library’s collections: the history of the Russian state and law, the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation. Authoritative experts from scientific and educational institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities traditionally give lectures to the audience.

Films and video lectures prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as films of leading domestic film and television studios are broadcast around the clock on the Presidential Library’s portal in the TV Channel section. Their display is timed to coincide with memorable and significant dates and major events in the Presidential Library.
