The potential of the Russian language in the CIS countries spotlighted at the Presidential Library’s round table

On October 26, 2023 the Presidential Library hosted a round table "Russian language in the CIS countries: the potential for cooperation in culture, science and education". The event was held within the framework of the international conference "Russian language - the basis of the integration dialogue in the in the CIS region" which is held on October 26-27 and is the central event devoted to this topic.

The round table is organized by the Presidential Library and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of States - Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov emphasized: “The joint holding of the international conference “Russian language - the basis of integration dialogue in the CIS region” is another step in the development of cooperation between the Presidential Library and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly”.

By decision of the Council of Heads of State - Members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, 2023 was declared the Year of the Russian Language as the language of interethnic communication in the Commonwealth.

Yuri Nosov noted that the Presidential Library pays great attention to preserving and providing access to the most important documents on history and the Russian language. The library's collections include more than a million electronic copies of books, archival materials and other documents that are available to readers in remote access centers in Russia and abroad. One of the main sections on the library’s portal is dedicated to the formation and development of the Russian language. The electronic Russian language Olympiad is held annually for schoolchildren, including those who study Russian as a foreign language.

The purpose of the round table “Russian language in the CIS countries: potential for cooperation in culture, science and education” which took place at the Presidential Library, was to reveal the potential of the Russian language in the CIS countries for cooperation in culture, science and education.

During the event, the reports entitled “The role of the Russian language in the education and development of library users”, “Russian language as the basis of cultural, scientific and educational interaction of the CIS countries”, “Russian space”: problems and promising formats of development in the CIS countries”, “Regulation of the Russian language in the CIS in the light of the “Index of Sustainability of the Russian Language in the Countries of the Post-Soviet Space”, “Joint educational programs of higher education as a tool for training highly qualified personnel for the modern labor market and a way to increase the potential of international humanitarian cooperation” and others were made.

Representatives of libraries, educational, scientific, cultural institutions, government organizations and public associations joined the round table, including via video link.

On October 27, 2023, the participants of the conference "Russian language - the basis of the integration dialogue in the in the CIS region" will take a tour of the Presidential Library.
