The Presidential Library hosts the first international scientific and practical conference “Movement of the First”

On December 5, 2023 the opening ceremony of the first international scientific and practical conference “Children’s movement as a social institution of education: history, theory, practice, prospects” took place at the Presidential Library. The organizer of the event is the All-Russian public-state movement of children and youth “Movement of the First”.

The conference is aimed at scientific, social and professional discussion of issues of educating the younger generation in Russia and abroad, attracting the scientific community to study the process of formation and development of the children's movement as a social institution of public and state education.

The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, heads of relevant ministries and departments.

In his welcoming speech, Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov noted that it was no coincidence that the opening of the first international scientific and practical conference was held in the Presidential Library: “The Presidential Library pays much attention to interaction with young people. Marking the Year of Teachers and Mentors, together with strategic partners, a number of educational and educational projects were successfully implemented. All of them are aimed at creating a single information space in the field of the history of Russian statehood, strengthening spiritual and moral values among the younger generation and youth, preserving historical memory and countering the falsification of history.”

The first international scientific and practical conference “Children's movement as a social institution of education: history, theory, practice, prospects” brought together participants from 11 countries: Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Indonesia, Algeria, Morocco, South Africa and Austria. More than 500 people attended the conference in person and more than 1000 joined it online. In total, more than 110 Russian speakers are scheduled to speak, as well as more than 10 speakers from near and far abroad countries. Among them are leading scientists in the field of research into problems of education, organization of educational work with children and youth, heads of executive authorities, experts and practitioners on issues of educational work and the development of the children's movement, participants and mentors of international, all-Russian, regional, local children's and youth associations, representatives of the teaching and student community of other organizations studying the development of the children's movement.  

The conference, which is held from December 4-6 in St. Petersburg, includes plenary sessions and sections covering the topics of trends and prospects for the children's movement, government support for youth and social movements and initiatives, patriotic education of youth and many others.

The conference is an open platform for the exchange of experience, the broadcast of the best Russian and international practices, as well as a place for synergy between scientists, theorists and practitioners. Based on the results of its work, it is planned to publish an electronic collection of materials.

The conference events are held simultaneously at several venues: at the Presidential Library, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Academy of Talents, Pildes Academic Gymnasium № 56, as well as at the Ushinsky St. Petersburg Academy of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education.

The Russian Children and Youth Movement has been formed by order of President of Russia Vladimir Putin. Its constitutive meeting took place on July 20, 2022.

The “Movement of the First” received its name based on voting results at the First Congress of the Russian Children and Youth Movement in Moscow, which was held from December 18-20, 2022. The delegates also approved 12 areas of activity and 11 common values, including “Life and Dignity”, “Patriotism”, “Goodness and Justice”, “Creative Work”, “Strong Family” and others. Among the main missions of the participants are “Be with Russia”, “Be human”, “Be together”, “Be in the Movement”, “Be the first”.

The movement’s activities are aimed at organizing leisure time, creating opportunities for comprehensive development and self-realization, as well as vocational guidance for children and youth.
