The Presidential Library hosts international conference dedicated to combating COVID-19

On December 7, 2023, in St. Petersburg, at the Presidential Library, the Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova opened the IV International Conference “Combating New Coronavirus Infection and Other Infectious Disease”. The event is attended by over 300 delegates from more than 30 countries of the CIS, SCO, Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia, Central, South, East and Southeast Asia, Africa, Latin America, as well as representatives of the World Health Organization.

For the conference participants, Anna Popova read an address from the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin. “I welcome you to the IV International Scientific and Practical Conference. For many years it has been one of the main professional events. The conference provides an opportunity for epidemiologists, microbiologists, immunologists and infectious disease specialists to have a substantive dialogue on topical issues related to ensuring the safety of citizens of our states. Exchange experience and information, new knowledge, approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment, the latest scientific achievements, discuss prospects for the development of infection monitoring using modern methods and digital technologies. This is the key to a timely response to outbreaks of dangerous diseases and helps prevent their widespread spread”, - says the address of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor noted that the first conference was held at the peak of the pandemic in 2020. “Three years later, a lot has changed. In May this year, WHO announced the lifting of the international public health emergency status for COVID-19. However, judging by the number of participants in our today’s event, we can judge that interest in the fight against the new coronavirus and other infections is growing every year. Thus, the IV International Conference is the largest in the history of its holding”, - emphasized Anna Popova.

Vice-Governor Oleg Ergashev made an appeal on behalf of the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov. “Today the forum platform brought together Russian and foreign scientists joining the fight against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. During the pandemic, the leadership of Rospotrebnadzor provided great support to St. Petersburg. We express our deep gratitude for this. I am confident that the rich conference program will allow scientists to exchange useful experience and innovative developments”, - the vice-governor emphasized. The conference in St. Petersburg is one of the largest platforms for discussing the latest tools to combat epidemics, including genomic surveillance, new technologies for creating immunobiological drugs, digital transformation and others.

This year's conference aims to improve global preparedness for future pandemics. The main focus of the event will be on discussing the latest advances in research on various aspects of COVID-19, assessing the epidemiological effectiveness of approaches to responding to the pandemic, methods of molecular diagnostics and epidemiology, monitoring population immunity to current infections, the role of new and digital technologies and health education in ensuring sanitary and epidemiological well-being, as well as international cooperation in responding to threats to biological safety.

The IV International Conference “Combating New Coronavirus Infection and Other Infectious Diseases” takes place at the Presidential Library on December 7-8, 2023.
