The Presidential Library and Sberbank signed a cooperation agreement

The Presidential Library, subordinate to the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation, and Sberbank entered into a cooperation agreement. Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov and Vice President, Director of the Department for the Development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Sberbank Maxim Eremenko put their electronic signatures on the document.

The agreement provides for long-term cooperation on the implementation of digital transformation projects with the aim of developing platform solutions for the Presidential Library, including the use of artificial intelligence technologies, cloud technologies, and the development of innovative digital products and platforms.

As part of the cooperation, the Presidential Library’s collections will be processed and adapted using artificial intelligence in order to automate cataloging, description, optical recognition and ease of use by a wide audience. It is also planned to digitize archival materials on the history of Sberbank, create a thematic digital collection and hold a thematic exhibition using augmented reality. It is planned to develop and implement a set of digital products “Digital Presidential Library”, available to employees, clients of Sberbank and a wide audience of users, as well as an appropriate system for storage, management and user access to the collection using the latest digital technologies and payment services of Sberbank.

Vice President, Director of the Department for the Development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Sberbank Maxim Eremenko noted: “This agreement will allow the Presidential Library to reach a new level and become even more modern, accessible and convenient for its readers. Today, not a single sector of the economy can do without digitalization, neural networks, artificial intelligence and platform solutions. Librarianship all the more needs the active use of innovative technologies. They help preserve collections, give users access to the digital format of books and archival materials, allow them to provide remote services, pre-order online literature, and much more - the possibilities are unlimited. Sber has extensive experience and qualified expertise in the field of digitalization and artificial intelligence and is ready to share unique solutions in this area with the Presidential Library”.

According to Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov, “cooperation with the largest bank in Russia, which is a leader in the field of digitalization, will contribute to the development of platform solutions of the Presidential Library, the use of artificial intelligence technologies, cloud technologies, as well as the development of innovative digital products and platforms. This will improve the quality of access to the electronic collections, the volume of which amounts to more than a million depository items. In digital form, the collections contain books and periodicals, newsreels, photographs, scientific and educational films, theses, archival documents and materials that illustrate the history of Russia, economic and diplomatic relations between Russia and other countries in different historical periods”.

The Presidential Library is under the jurisdiction of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation and is the first electronic national library of Russia.

The library is located in the center of St. Petersburg, in the historical building of the Holy Synod, built in the second quarter of the 19th century according to the design of the outstanding architect Carlo Rossi, and is the largest multifunctional information, scientific, cultural and educational center.
