The origins of St. Petersburg hospitality discussed at a multimedia lesson in the Presidential Library

The Presidential Library and St. Petersburg State Economic University continue to implement a joint educational project.

On February 28, 2024 at 11:00 a multimedia lesson entitled “Entrepreneurship in the restaurant industry, the path to creativity and freedom” was held at the Presidential Library for high school and junior students of the Faculty of Service, Tourism and Hospitality. The lesson introduced entrepreneurship, which allows to implement business ideas and demonstrate abilities in an actively competitive modern market. Listeners were introduced to the traditions of entrepreneurship in modern St. Petersburg, the guys learned how projects of public catering enterprises in Leningrad became popular and visited places, and how to become a media business person from an ordinary kitchen worker.

This is the first lesson of this year, and it continues the series “The Origins of St. Petersburg Hospitality: Events, People, Places”. Before this, the listeners had already remotely visited the court of Peter I and met Johann von Felten, the emperor’s personal chef, and studied the “Hermitage Etiquette” of Catherine II. They found out that the Oktyabrskaya Hotel was a former apartment building of Essen-Stenbock-Fermor, learned how the Lenexpo exhibition complex was created and developed and when the first official travel agency, Lipson Enterprise, opened in St. Petersburg. In addition, the event participants discovered new names of famous chefs and restaurateurs from different eras.
