On March 25, 2024 the grand opening of the exhibition “About the Important through Art” took place at the Presidential Library. The exhibition is dedicated to one of the pressing problems of our time – bone marrow donation.

On behalf of Director General of the Presidential Library, the event participants were greeted by Director of the Department for Scientific and Educational Work of the Presidential Library, Igor Solonko.

Welcoming speeches were made by honored guests in the field of bone marrow donation: Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Nikolai Tsed, deputies of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Konstantin Chebykin and Anastasia Melnikova, head of the Foundation for the Development of Bone Marrow Donation Lyubov Belozerova. Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Nikolai Valuev sent a video message to the event participants.

The organizers of the exhibition are the authors of the educational project “Launch the Brain”, the main goal of which is to popularize bone marrow donation in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region. More information about the project is available at the link.

Bone marrow is the most important organ of hematopoiesis and biological defence of the body. A bone marrow transplant is sometimes the only way to save someone's life. In Russia, there is little information about bone marrow donation and many myths surrounding the cell collection procedure. The Federal Bone Marrow Registry in our country numbers just over 300 thousand donors, which is very small compared to the total population. The exhibition at the Presidential Library is designed to draw attention to this problem.

The exhibition features 30 paintings by professional and non-professional artists with donor experience from St. Petersburg, Moscow and Simferopol, who expressed their ideas about this important topic on canvas.

The exhibition “About the Important through Art” will run until April 5. To visit the exhibition please pre-register by phone (812) 334-25-14 or  email at excursion@prlib.ru.
