Role of the USSR intelligence services in fight against fascism in Spain at video lecture in the Presidential Library
The Presidential Library, as part of the "Knowledge about Russia" video lecture, conducts a series of lectures on the history of Russian state security agencies.
On April 17, 2024, the second part of the lecture was held on the topic "The first fight against fascism and the role of the USSR intelligence services in protecting the Spanish Republic. 1936–1939".
The video recording of the first part of the lecture, which was delivered on March 28, 2024, can be viewed on the Rutub channel of the Presidential Library, on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.
On October 1, 1936, Francisco Franco and the National Defense Committee (part of the Spanish Army) came to power in Spain. The political regime associated with Franco's rule, according to many researchers, was an authoritarian regime of limited conservative pluralism with features of a military dictatorship. Some historians and political scientists consider Francoism as a kind of totalitarianism and fascism.
Lecturer Sergey V. Ratz spoke about the organization of sabotage intelligence work in the back of the Francoists, as well as about the role played by the work of military intelligence agents during the Spanish Civil War, in which the Soviet Union supported the republican government of the country in the fight against the right-monarchical corps of Francisco Franco.
The recording of the event is available on the institution's RuTube channel, on the VKontakte and Odnoklassniki social networks.
