3 May 2024

A new exhibition dedicated to family reading and books for all generations was opened in the Moscow Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Moscow Regional Universal Library. The event is timed to coincide with the Year of the Family.

The exhibition "With the family to the library" is based on materials from the extensive collections of the Moscow Regional Universal Library: publications for joint reading, books about education, health and building balanced relationships in the family. The exhibition also tells about the vision of the family represented in the works of Russian literature and Russian painting.

The highlight of the exhibition was a book from the Presidential Library's collections The Family and its challenges: a book for parents and caregivers compiled by parents and friends of children (1903) edited by Axel Arstal. The main purpose of the book is: "to help parents and other adults taking care of the child to assimilate the necessary understanding of the nature and needs of the child, as well as the ability to direct the physical, mental and moral development of the child to the right way." The book covers the issues of child labor in the family, communication with nature, transition age, family economy and preparing children for social life.

Materials from the collection of the Presidential Library Family and Traditional Family Values in Russia as the basis of Russian Statehood, which includes research, periodicals, archival documents, and visual sources, were also used to create the exhibition. The Presidential Library’s materials provide the history of the development of the family institution in Russia from the time of Ancient Rus' to the present. Much attention is paid to the state policy for the preservation and strengthening of family values in the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. Separately, plots on rendering assistance to the families of military and civil servants are highlighted. The collection also reveals regional features of family relations among the peoples of Russia, the issues of raising children.
