Hour of history in Crimean Regional Center of the Presidential Library dedicated to the Day of the Border Guard

On May 29th, 2024, the Regional Center of the Presidential Library, located in the Franco Crimean Republic Universal Scientific Library, held a History Hour event dedicated to the Day of the Border Guard.

The event was dedicated to the heroic figures of the border guard, participants in the Great Patriotic War, such as Ivan Bogatyr, Vasily Gorishny, Gerasim Rubtsov, and Alexander Terletsky. Children from the A. Terletsky Detachment of Youth Army "Zastava," students from schools No. 18 and 15, and other students attended the event.

Viktor Khomutov, the Chairman of the Simferopol Public Organization of Veterans of Border Guards, and Sergey Gilev, the Vice-President of the Russian Public Organization SME "New Formation," welcomed the audience.

Participants of the "Guardians of History" project from the Regional Branch of the Russian public-state movement "Children and Youth Movement of the First" in the Republic of Crimea spoke about their efforts to preserve historical memory and encouraged schoolchildren to join their movement.

During the event, a printed booklet about the life and achievements of the Crimean border guards was presented. The booklet was published by the initiative of Vasily Gorishny, the grandson of the legendary military commander Vasily Gorishny, and with the support of the Russia Public Organization SME "New Formation".

In addition to the booklet, an informational part of the event included a thematic selection of literature from the collections of the Franco Crimean Universal Scientific Library and the electronic collections of the Presidential Library. The collection Republic of Crimea: Pages of History are available on the Presidential Library's portal. It contains archival documents, research papers, essays, and other materials that cover various aspects of the peninsula's history from ancient times to the early 20th century.
