5 June 2024

On June 5, 2024, the Presidential Library of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation hosted The General Meeting of the Russian Historical Society.

Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, was re-elected to the position of Chairman for a period of three years.

The General Meetings of the Russian Historical Society are annual events that attract hundreds of delegates from across the country, including famous scientists, educators, government officials, and public figures. This year's event was also attended by Sergey Grinevich, Head of the Information and Communication Technologies Department at the Presidential Administration, and Yuri Nosov, General Director of the Presidential Library.

The venue for the General Meeting was chosen carefully - in 2012, the Presidential Library, along with 26 major Russian universities, museums, and other organizations, became one of the founding members of the Society. Since then, the Presidential Library and the Russian Historical Society have worked together on a number of historical and educational projects.

The main goal of the general meetings is to create a unified vision for the future development of the Russian Historical Society.

The participants of the meeting welcomed the admission of new members to the Society - now 172 organizations and 926 individuals are members of the Russian Historical Society. The membership of the Council, the main governing body of the organization, has also grown - it now includes Alexey Zagrebin, acting director of the Miklukho-Maklai Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Andrey Khazin, rector of the Russian State Social University.

During the voting, a list of priority topics for the work of the Russian Historical Society was approved - socially significant historical anniversaries, for which members of the Society are preparing projects and events. Among the priorities for 2025-2026 are: the 200th anniversary of the Decembrist uprising in St. Petersburg, the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 60th anniversary of the first human spacewalk, the anniversaries of Sergei Yesenin and Mikhail Sholokhov, and other memorable dates.

The presence of the Russian Historical Society in various regions of Russia is being strengthened, with a branch being established during the General Meeting of Societies in the Kherson region. Artyom Lagoysky, the acting Minister of Culture for the region, was elected as the chairman of this branch. Now, the company has branches in all the liberated regions of Novorossiya.

At the end of the meeting, two members of the RHS Council were awarded silver medals by the Russian Historical Society. These were Georgy Vilinbakhov, Chairman of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation and State Heraldmaster, and Nikolai Kradin, Director of the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East and Chairman of the Branch Council of the Russian Historical Society in Primorye.
