The exploits of military counterintelligence discussed at the video lecture in the Presidential Library

17 June 2024

The Presidential Library is continuing a series of lectures as part of the Knowledge of Russia video lecture series, which focuses on the history of Russia's state security agencies. The lectures provide information about the main activities of these agencies, the specifics of their work, and the most interesting and significant operations they have carried out. They also highlight the achievements of some of the outstanding individuals who have worked in these agencies.

On June 17th, 2024 Anatoly Kontashov, Chairman of the Regional Association of Veterans of Military Counterintelligence from the Leningrad Military District, was speaking about the operation to capture the building of the Nazi intelligence center in Riga in October of 1944 in lecture titled "Heroes of SMERSH: They Don't Bury the Living. About the Feat of Captain Pospelov". This operation was led by Captain Mikhail Pospelov, and as a result of the hard work of the taskforce, a file of Wehrmacht agents was captured, allowing military counterintelligence to further identify and uncover many enemy spies.

The recording of the event is available on the Library's Rutube channel.
