The exhibition Artists of the Komi Republic in the Great Patriotic War opened in the Presidential Library

24 June 2024

From June 24 to July 5, 2024, the electronic exhibition Artists of the Komi Republic during the Great Patriotic War will be open in the Presidential Library. The exhibition tells the story of five frontline artists who addressed complex philosophical and ethical issues in their work. The exhibition was created using the materials from the album "Artists of the Komi Republic - Participants of the Great Patriotic War", which was published by the National Gallery of the Komi Republic in 2015.

During the Great Patriotic War, Rem Ermolin, Sergey Dobryakov, Alexander Mladenov, Pavel Semyachkov, and Stepan Kholopov fought alongside the people to defend our country. Having joined the front at a young age, they went through a difficult journey that influenced their art and worldview.

The exhibition includes photographs, paintings, drawings, and sketches. Some works were created during the war, while others were made after it. Portraits of veterans hold a special place among the paintings, as their faces tell the story of the war more effectively than words. Each work reflects on life, death, the Motherland, duty, and love.

Not only their works tell the story of the lives of artists, but also the awards they received: everyone has medals such as "For Bravery", "For Military Merit", "For the Capture of Berlin" and "Victory over Germany", as well as titles such as People's Artist or Honored Artist of the Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Komi ASSR) and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR).

The exhibition Artists of the Komi Republic during the Great Patriotic War aims to preserve the memory of these artists and is intended for younger generations of Russians interested in the history of their country and art. The exhibition was organized by the Regional Center of the Presidential Library, which is located at the National Library of the Komi Republic.

To visit the exhibition make an appointment by phone (812) 334-25-14 or send an e-mail to excursion@prlib.ru.
