Winners of student works' contest of Presidential Library defined
The Presidential Library has announced the results of a student competition, which took place from March 7 to June 30, 2024. The competition included submissions such as term papers, graduation papers, articles, reports, and other research materials. The judges assessed the entries in three categories.
In the category for The best term paper utilizing the electronic resources of the Presidential Library, Ivan Bulyga, Ruslan Mazaev, and Leonid Novozhilov were awarded first place for their works "Higher Bureaucracy and the Liberal Movement in Russia in January - October 1905," "Non scholae sed vitae discimus: the student of Imperial St. Petersburg University, P. A. Stolypin," and "The Crimean War in Russian Periodicals in the Middle of the 19th Century: Sourcesences and Historiography," respectively.
In the nomination Best Final Qualification/Thesis using the Electronic Fund of the Presidential Library, Antonina Vanyukova for her work "The Navy and Russian-British Relations of the 1860s-1880s" and Dmitry Shchukin for his work "Noble Estates of the Staritsky District/District in the 1920s-1930s: Problems of Museification" were awarded first-degree diplomas.
In the nomination Best Research Work Using the Electronic Collections of the Presidential Library, all the works were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the field of research, but only three of them were awarded diplomas. Zinaida Zhenchenko received a diploma of the second degree for her work "V. I. Muravlenko's Contribution to the Development of the Sakhalin Oil Industry". Radomir Krasavtsev was also awarded a diploma of the same degree for his work "Coverage of the Ukrainian Issue in the Newspaper 'Russian Banner' (1912–1914): Ideologems and Medievalisms". Finally, Semyon Milyutin was recognized with a diploma for his study "Reflection of Industry in the Museums of the Russian Empire and USSR in the 19th and 20th Centuries". Ulyana Rudenko was also awarded for her paper "The role of A. I. Mikoyan in organizing the supply of Leningrad in the initial period of the Great Patriotic War (1941 – early 1942)".
The main purpose of the student contest, organized by the Presidential Library, is to promote reliable knowledge about Russia and create opportunities for students to showcase their creativity. The goals of the competition include drawing students' attention to Russian history, culture, and the Russian language and developing their skills in conducting research using archival documents and other resources from the Presidential Library's electronic collection.
To participate in the competition, students must use sources from the Presidential Library's extensive collection, which includes more than a million depository items, including books, archival materials, periodicals, photographs, audio recordings, and video materials across various disciplines like Russian history, law, the Russian language, geography, and art history.
