Presidential Library presents online films, video lectures and webinars
The Time of Troubles, the people's militia, and the resistance against the Polish invaders - little-known facts about the creator of the Kalashnikov assault rifle, and the opening of the Tsarskoye Selo railway - will be featured in films and video lectures on the TV Channel section of the Presidential Library's portal from November 1st to 15th.
On National Unity Day (November 4th), a documentary film trilogy titled State Symbols of Russia will be screened, which focuses on the history of the country's state symbols. The first film, Coat of Arms of Russia, traces the evolution of the heraldic emblem from ancient times to modern Russia. The second film, Flag of Russia, examines the development of national flags over the centuries. The third film, Anthem of Russia, explores the three-century history of anthems in Russia.
In video lectures, Gleb Kalashnikov, the Executive Secretary of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation, discusses the national flag of Russia and the symbols of presidential power.
Users can also watch video lectures about the Time of Troubles and the history of people's militias. Without leaving home, they can take a virtual tour of the exhibition The Time of Trouble and its Images in Russian Culture at the Presidential Library. The exhibits tell the story of events and figures from that period, and how they were perceived in different historical contexts.
On this day, a recording of an open lesson by Alikhan Dinaev, the winner of the Teacher of Russia competition, will also be broadcast. He will discuss the history and importance of the Russian holiday.
The video lectures will cover the revolutionary events of 1917 in The Revolution That Stole Victory and Plunged into Turmoil and The Battle for History.
The video tour of the Presidential Library, To Arrange So That Everything Becomes New... covers the period from January 1917 to January 1918. Using multimedia and traditional exhibition techniques, the exposition allows visitors to see the locations in Petrograd where some of the most significant revolutionary events took place.
The documentary October, Which Became November from the Events in History series on the historical channel 365 Days TV tells the story of the revolution and its impact on Russian history.
On November 10th, the 105th anniversary of Mikhail Kalashnikov's birth, the screening of the Presidential Library's film The Leningrad Addresses of Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov took place. The video was dedicated to a lesser-known period in his life - his time in Leningrad during World War II. The audience had the opportunity to visit one of the oldest artillery ranges in the country, where some of Kalashnikov's weapons were tested. They also saw the installation of a monument to Kalashnikov on the grounds of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer, and Signal Corps. The film included rare photographs from Kalashnikov's personal archive.
On November 11, 1837, the grand opening of the first passenger railway in Russia took place in St. Petersburg, connecting St. Petersburg with Tsarskoye Selo and Pavlovsky. The video lecture The Train Rushes in an Open Field will introduce users to the history of the beginning of railway construction in Russia. The webinar of the Presidential Library will discuss the development of railway transport in the country.
Especially for students, video lectures are available on the library's portal, covering topics that expand and supplement the school curriculum. The video lecture Knowledge of Russia focuses on the main areas of the Presidential Library's collection: the history of the Russian state and law, as well as Russian as the official language of the Russian Federation. Experts from scientific and educational institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian cities give lectures to viewers.
