The electronic collection of the Presidential Library, which contains more than a million items, is continuously enriched with materials in various formats. This includes not only historical archive documents, rare publications, vintage photographs, and illustrations, but also works by contemporary artists, including paintings.

The collection of paintings by Roman Gvozdev, a Primorsky artist, was transferred to the Presidential Library for digitalization. Some of his works are already available on the institution's website in the collections Far East – the Point of Attraction and Primorye territory: Pages of History.

Roman Gvozdev is a professional scholar, ethnographer, and anthropologist with a PhD in History and a member of the Russian Artists' Union. From October 2022 to February 2023, he served in the special military operation as a member of the BARS-4 volunteer unit.

Roman Gvozdev was born in 1976 in Vladivostok. After graduating from the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the Far Eastern State University, he started studying watercolor painting. This was made possible by his work at the Institute of History, Archaeology, and Ethnography, where employees were required to make sketches during expeditions. His painting skills were useful to him during his work on artifacts at the Kunstkammer and Russian Ethnographic Museum in St. Petersburg, as well as for his PhD thesis illustrations, which were all hand-drawn.

Roman Gvozdev has decided to pursue his passion and specialize in seascape painting. To achieve this, he has studied the works of renowned watercolor artists such as Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky and Rudolf Georgievich Sudkovsky. In this genre, Roman has shown himself to be a talented artist with a unique vision of the world. He follows the realistic school of art and prefers to paint seascapes and urban landscapes. His preferred medium is watercolor painting.

Since 2009, Roman Gvozdev has actively participated in art exhibitions.

His works are available in private collections in Moscow, St. Petersburg and abroad. Thanks to the Presidential Library's portal, his paintings are now accessible to art enthusiasts all over the world.
