Multimedia lesson at Penza Regional Center of Presidential Library dedicated to Arctic explorer Ivan Papanin
The specialists of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library, based at the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, hosted a multimedia lesson on the 130th anniversary of Ivan Dmitrievich Papanin, a famous Arctic explorer and twice Hero of the Soviet Union. The lesson was attended by students from school No. 56.
The children were presented with thematic resources from the Presidential Library. One of the resources was the book Why We Organized the Papanin Expedition (1938), which was given to them. In addition, they were introduced to a collection of Arctic Exploration materials. This collection included scientific research, essays, memoirs, archival files, official documents, newsreels, photographs, and other materials.
The central focus of the collection was on publications related to the Arctic boom in the Soviet Union during the 1920s and 1930s. High school students also had the opportunity to explore the section of the collection that focused on the Expedition of I. D. Papanin in 1937.
During the lesson, the children watched a film from the Presidential Library's fund Development of the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route. They were also introduced to the library's collection Territory of Russia, which contains books on the history of northern territories, travel journals, marine atlases, drawings, and other materials.
At the end of the session, a thematic quiz called Wonders of the Polar World was conducted for the students. The answers to the questions were available on the Presidential Library portal.
Additionally, the collection Penza Region: Pages of History can also be found on the Presidential Library website. It contains archival documents, essays, research papers, statistics, and other information about the region's history and development over time.
