Presidential Library presented its projects at Twelfth Volkonsky Readings
The Presidential Libraryе took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference The Twelfth Volkonsky Readings: Liberating the Fatherland, Liberating Europe. Russia and Its Allies in the Wars of the XIX-XX Centuries. The event will take place in St. Petersburg from 12th to 14th of November, 2024.
The conference, which is named after Pyotr Volkonsky, the Chief of the General Staff of His Imperial Majesty from 1815 to 1823, brings together representatives from the highest and central military authorities, diplomatic missions, leading military research organizations, archives, museums, and libraries from Russia and other countries.
The purpose of the conference is to systematize and disseminate military historical knowledge about Russia's role in the coalitions of the 19th and 20th centuries, both within the domestic and international scientific community. It also aims to strengthen international cooperation in the field of military history and education.
The Presidential Library staff regularly participates in the Volkonsky Readings conference, where they present their projects and resources from the library's collection.
On November 13th, within the section Information resources on the national military history of the 19th and 20th centuries: State, problems, and prospects for development, presentations was given by specialists from the Presidential Library on the following topics:
- The Crimean War (1853-1856): Reflection in the Electronic Collection of the Presidential Library
- The First World War: Projects of the Presidential Library
- The History of Russian Cossack Participation in Wars of the Early 20th Century: Based on Materials from the Presidential Library's Collection
- World War II: Sources and Resources from the Joint Project of the Federal Archives and the Presidential Library.
Cooperation between the Presidential Library and the Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has been ongoing since 2020, when a cooperation agreement was signed. One area of joint activity has been the digitization of publications from the Military Historical Library's collection.
The Presidential Library's electronic collection contains a vast number of documents related to Russia's military history. On the institution's portal, visitors can explore electronic collections dedicated to our country's heroic past and famous military leaders.
Special attention is paid to the events of the Great Patriotic War. The Presidential Library, together with the Federal Archival Agency, is implementing the project World War II in Archival Documents: Collection of Digitized Archival Documents, Film and Photographic Materials. The portal of the institution features electronic collections such as Memory of the Great Victory and Defence and Siege of Leningrad.
The Presidential Library's annual projects, such as the Olympiad Russia in the Electronic World, video lectures Knowledge of Russia, multimedia lessons, Cadet Day and Naval Knowledge Day, all include an appeal to the heroic pages of Russia's military history.
