Students of Chuvashia learned about resources of Presidential Library
On November 18, 2024, the Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the National Library of the Chuvash Republic hosted a series of multimedia lessons titled Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library: A Unique Intellectual Resource.
The event was attended by students from the Chuvash Cadet Corps of the Volga Federal District and the Cheboksary Orphanage for Children Left Without Parental Care.
The head of the Chuvash Regional Center of the Presidential Library, Maria Shubnikova, introduced the portal of the Presidential Library to children as a reliable and authoritative source of information. She also presented the projects and activities of the institution to preserve significant events in Russian history, including information landmarks and search capabilities. They discussed the use of library materials for educational and research purposes.
The students were shown resources from the Presidential Library that highlighted significant historical events and prominent figures who will be celebrated in 2024, including the 125th anniversary of Mikhail Vodopyanov, a polar explorer and pilot who was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and Aviator Major General. They also learned about the 90th anniversaries of the start of the rescue mission for the crew of the Chelyuskin steamer and the establishment of the Hero of the Soviet Union title.
Maria Shubnikova spoke about Mikhail Vodopyanov's role in rescuing the scientific expedition on the Chelyuskin ship, his award as a Hero of the Soviet Union, the first landing of an aircraft on ice near the North Pole, his participation in a difficult bombing mission over Berlin in August 1941, and his work training the first astronauts.
During the event, children got to know the materials from the Presidential Library's collection on Arctic Exploration. Among them were fragments from the newsreel about the scientific expedition led by Papanin to the North Pole in 1937, the collection called Heroes of the Soviet Union featuring Lyapidevsky, Levanevsky, Vodopyanov, Molokov, Kamanin, Slepnev and Doronin (1934), and books by Mikhail Vodopyanov titled To the Heart of the Arctic and Flight to Franz Joseph Land (both published in 1939).
The Presidential Library also features the collection titled Chuvash Republic: Pages of History on its portal. This collection includes official documents, research papers, archival materials, and visual content that cover various aspects of the republic's development over time.
