Presidential Library invites readers to watch films on TV channel during New Year holidays

On the Presidential Library's portal, in the TV Channel section, viewers can watch films and video lectures produced by the Presidential Library as well as videos from leading domestic film and television studios around the clock. This makes it convenient for users in any region of Russia, from Kaliningrad in the west to the Far East in the east, as well as in any country, to watch these programs. We invite you to explore the most notable film screenings dedicated to significant dates from January 1st to 15th.

On January 1st, a video recording of the webinar titled Theater in Russia will be broadcast. The Presidential Library collection includes historical essays, works by historians and theater critics, archival materials from the Imperial Theater Directorate collection, theater playbills from different years, theater magazines, videos by cultural figures, photos of artists, sets and theater buildings. During the webinar, participants will be able to learn about the history of the St. Petersburg State Theatre Library and explore materials from its collections.

Also on this day, we will hold virtual meetings with Nikolai Burov, People's Artist of Russia, at a lecture titled Literature and Theater: Images and Characters, and with Vladimir Galuzin, People's Artist and soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, and Natalia Timchenko, laureate of international competitions, at a creative meeting titled Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow... Not Just About Opera.

On January 6th, Christmas Eve, films from the Presidential Library are available on the portal. They tell the story of the preserved frescoes in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Ferapontov Monastery and churches in Staraya Ladoga and the Church of the Savior near Veliky Novgorod, as well as the documentaries Stolny Gorod and Golden Storeroom about Staraya Ladoga and Veliky Novgorod respectively.

On January 7th, the day of Orthodox Christmas celebration, animated films based on biblical themes created by creative studios from different regions of Russia will be screened. Young animators from various creative homes, continuing education centers, and correctional educational institutions worked together with adults - screenwriters, artists, and directors - to create these films. The cartoons were made using different techniques, including plasticine, sand animation, and hand-drawn animation.

In addition, a video lecture titled The Russian Icon in the Collection of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve will be broadcast, focusing on the most outstanding and interesting examples of ancient Russian art.

On the same day, readers can watch the film ECCE HOMO about John of Kronstadt, a preacher and church and public figure who was the rector of St. Andrew's Cathedral in Kronstadt. The film includes an interview with Nadezhda Kitsenko, an American researcher and historian of Russian descent who is the daughter of an Orthodox priest.

The film is divided into two parts. The first part, Patria, tells about John of Kronstadt's native village, Sura in the Arkhangelsk region, and about the current life of his relatives and memories of the village people. The second part, Oicumene, focuses on the veneration of John's personality among Russian emigrants in America.

On the same day, the video recording of the festive concert by the Valaam Monastery Choir will be shown in the Great Hall of the State Academic Philharmonic.

On January 12, which is the Day of the Russian Prosecutor's Office, users will have the opportunity to view a recording of a webinar dedicated to the review of materials from the electronic collection of the Presidential Library regarding the history and development of the prosecutorial system in Russia. This includes various legislative acts, archival documents, portraits of prosecutors and ministers of justice, as well as scholarly works that demonstrate how the organization, powers, and procedures of the prosecutor's office have evolved over time.

The topic of the video lecture Alexander II's Press Law, organized by the educational project Knowledge of Russia video lecture series of the Presidential Library, will be broadcasted online on January 13, Russian Press Day.

On January 15, we mark the 230th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Griboyedov, a poet, playwright and diplomat. The Presidential Library hosted a webinar titled Russian Writers in Public Service on this occasion, which discussed Griboyedov's career as a government official among other things.
