
Eleventh issue of Presidential Library's series of scientific collections "Historical Jurisprudence" marks 300th anniversary of Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg University establishment in Russia
The eleventh volume of the scientific collection Historical Jurisprudence was published on the portal of the Presidential Library, continuing the series that has been published since 2014.
The issue highlights various trends in Russian historical and legal scholarship and is linked to two significant anniversaries: the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 350th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University. These two institutions played a crucial role in the development of all key branches of Russian scholarship, including law, which saw a flourishing period in the second half of the 19th century in response to profound social transformations in Russian society and state.
The collection contains reviews of the work of some of the most prominent lawyers and academics, including M. M. Speransky, D. N. Bludov, N. V. Kalachev, M. M. Kovalevsky, A. V. Venediktov, I. P. Trainin, V. N. Kudryavtsev, and V. S. Nersesyants, among others. These individuals were all associated with St. Petersburg University and made significant contributions to the history of academic jurisprudence in Russia.
The publication includes a significant archive of documents from the Central Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences and its St. Petersburg branch, as well as the Department of Russian National Libraries, the Archives and Museum of St. Petersburg State University. Many documents are related to scientific research in the field of Ural.
According to the traditions of the compendium, published in honor of scholars, speeches by Academician A. V. Nikitenko on the president of the Academy of Sciences Count D. N. Blekhman, a memorial article by honorary academician A. F. Koni, whose 180th anniversary will be celebrated in 2024, and the work of M. Kovalevsky.
The author of this material collection is a Russian scientist, D. I. Lukovskaya, as well as V. V. Lapaeva, L. W. Lapteva, N. N. Efremova, E. A. Rostovtsev, N. S. Nizhnyk, N. V. Dunayeva, M. S. Kulikova, E. A. Yatsuk and O. V. Anisimov.
The history of legal science, including academic research, is a constantly evolving field, and the results of this scientific reflection on the experiences of previous scholars are summarized in various forms, such as dissertations, monographs, articles, and major research projects conducted by leading scientific organizations and universities.
The Presidential Library aims to continue sharing these lesser-known materials and findings with its readers on the history of state and law in Russia.
