
Space and submarine fleet, poetry and theater presented on TV channel of Presidential Library
The feat of Alexei Leonov, the circumnavigation of a submarine, and the lyrics of Fyodor Tyutchev, as well as the secrets of theatrical backstage, will be featured in the TV channel section of the Presidential Library's portal from March 16 to March 31. Films, video lectures, and webinars will provide information on these topics and more.
March 18th marks the 60th anniversary of the first human space walk, which was performed by Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Arkhipovich Leonov in 1965. To commemorate this significant date, the screening of the documentary film Ascension is scheduled. The film explores the moral issues of humanity's exploration of outer space and is based on materials from various archives.
The video includes footage from the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio, Russian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation, Russian State Archive of Film and Photographic Documents, and the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
From the documentary Space Pilots, based on unique footage shot during secret tests at the Aviation and Space Medical Research Institute, viewers can learn about the lives of space pioneers, their memories, and dreams.
On March 19th, on the Day of the Submariner, the documentary You Won't Wait! by Vasily Chiginsky will be shown. The film tells a little-known story about the S-56 submarine, which set sail from Vladivostok in October 1942 for a long journey that eventually turned into a 12-year world voyage.
On March 21st, World Poetry Day, the video lectures and webinars of the Presidential Library will feature the heroes Antioch Cantemir, Vasily Zhukovsky, Fyodor Tyutchev, Sergei Yesenin, and, of course, Alexander Pushkin. On this day, also marking the bicentenary of the birth of Russian inventor Alexander Fedorovich Mozhaysky, who worked on aircraft creation, viewers can enjoy a selection of films and videos dedicated to aviation.
March 22 marks a significant date in cinema history. On this day in 1895, the first public screening of a motion picture took place in Paris. In 1951, on the basis of the Moscow Television Center in Shabolovka, the first Central Television Studio was established in the USSR. To commemorate these events, video lectures about Sergei Eisenstein are scheduled to be presented. Eisenstein was a legendary figure in Soviet cinema, known as a director, artist, teacher, and screenwriter. His film Battleship Potemkin, which was recognized as the best film at the World's Fair in 1958, is an iconic work of cinema. One of the lectures will focus on why Eisenstein is considered the "teacher of cinematographers worldwide." The second lecture will discuss the creation of Eisenstein's masterpiece, Alexander Nevsky.
On World Theater Day, March 27, we will be broadcasting a video recording of a webinar titled Theater in Russia. The webinar will provide an overview of various sources about the Russian theater available in the collection of the Presidential Library, including historical essays, scholarly works by historians and theater critics, archive files from the Imperial Theater Directorate, repertoires from different years, theater journals, video lectures from cultural figures, photographs of actors, stage sets, and theater buildings. Additionally, the webinar will discuss the history of the St. Petersburg State Theatre Library and its collection.
Russian People's Artist and Acting Rector of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, Nikolai Tsiskaridze, will give a lecture on the traditions and current state of the Russian ballet school. Also, on this day, you will have the opportunity to virtually meet with the People's Artist of Russia, Nikolai Burov, at the lecture titled Literature and Theater: Images and Characters: The Actor's Look.
Especially for students, video lectures are available on the library's portal, covering topics that expand and supplement the school curriculum. The video lecture Knowledge of Russia focuses on the main areas of the Presidential Library's collection: the history of the Russian state and law, as well as Russian as the official language of the Russian Federation. Experts from scientific and educational institutions in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other Russian cities give lectures to viewers.
