Final stage of Presidential Library Olympiad in History, social studies and Russian language to be held in March

17 March 2025

On March 18-20, 2025, the final round of the Russia's Electronic World Olympiad in History, Social Studies, and the Russian Language will take place, organized by the Presidential Library and the National Research University Higher School of Economics. More than 200 participants will compete in the final round, with most of the finalists coming from Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Sverdlovsk, and Kemerovo regions and the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

It should be noted that more than 2,600 students took part in this intellectual competition, including those who participated in the first and second rounds. These are high school students in grades 10 and 11 as well as those enrolled in vocational schools with an emphasis on art programs.

The Olympiad consists of three stages. The first stage was held remotely from September 23 to December 2, 2024. The second stage was also held remotely between December 20, 2024 and January 24, 2025. Finally, the third and final stage will take place in-person from March 18-20, 2025.

Finalists from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region will gather at the Presidential Library in the historic Synod building on Senatskaya Square. Students from other regions will participate at the branches of the library and its electronic reading rooms. Additionally, the event will be hosted at the Tyumen branch.

The winners and prize-winners of the Olympiad will be awarded diplomas. Participants who show the best results will also receive additional points when applying to a number of universities. The list of these universities is available on the Presidential Library's portal.

The Olympiad tasks are developed on the basis of materials from the library collection, which contains more than a million digitized copies of rare documents making up the historical and cultural heritage of Russia. Therefore, participants can use the library's resources to answer competition questions as fully and accurately as possible. Students will also be able to practice by looking at assignments from previous years that are available in the Archive section of the portal.

The main goal of the competition is to introduce students to working with archival sources on the history, theory, and practice of Russian statehood. This educational project aims to find and support young talents, as well as popularize humanitarian knowledge among young people.

During the entire existence of this interactive educational project, which has been running since 2010, tens of thousands of children have participated in it. Many of these participants later enrolled in leading Russian universities.
