
Electronic reading room of Presidential Library opened in Penza school No. 79
On 8 April 2025, an electronic reading room of the Presidential Library was inaugurated at Secondary General Education School No. 79 in Penza. Almost one and a half thousand pupils and a large teaching staff of the school got access to the nationwide electronic repository of digital copies of the most important documents on history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, Russian language.
Olga Perepyolkina, Head of the Presidential Library Regional Centre based on the M.Y. Lermontov Penza Regional Library, noted that the opening of the electronic reading room expands opportunities for the development of research skills and creative potential of students. Now schoolchildren can use materials from the Presidential Library's electronic collection to study historical events, biographies of prominent personalities, analyse political processes and cultural phenomena.
Elena Ivashina, Director of Secondary General Education School No. 79 in Penza, welcomed the participants of the event. In her speech she emphasised the importance of creating conditions for working with reliable and verified sources.
Students and teachers were given an overview of thematic collections of the Presidential Library. They included collections devoted to statesmen and Russian writers. Books related to the history of the Penza region were also demonstrated. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, special attention was paid to the set of digitised archive documents, film and photo materials "World War II in archive documents".
During the event specialists of the Penza Regional Centre of the Presidential Library shared with the teachers the experience of popularisation of the Presidential Library resources.
In addition, high school students were invited to take part in the online Olympiad Know and Remember of the Penza Regional Library named after M. Lermontov. It includes questions with links to digitised materials from the Presidential Library collection.
Today there are more than 1,600 electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library in the Russian Federation and foreign countries. Their visitors can get acquainted with the whole variety of the library's collection, which contains hundreds of thousands of digitised copies of rare archival documents reflecting the history of our country and making up its cultural heritage, as well as become participants in various projects. Electronic reading rooms are opened on the basis of the National Libraries and Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Offices.
