
Presidential Library marks100th anniversary of Komsomolskaya Pravda
On 22 April 2025, as part of the video lecture "Knowledge of Russia", the Presidential Library hosted a meeting with the editorial staff of Komsomolskaya Pravda, one of the most popular newspapers in Russia. This year Komsomolskaya Pravda celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Komsomolskaya Pravda is not only a socio-political newspaper in Russia, but also an Internet publication and a radio station. It is read and listened to by millions of people. At the end of the 20th century, Komsomolskaya Pravda was entered into the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most widely circulated daily newspaper.
Irina Potekhina, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg, who worked at "Komsomolskaya Pravda in St. Petersburg" and was the General Director of the publication, made a welcoming speech.
Director General of the Presidential Library Yuri Nosov, welcoming the guests and participants of the video lecture, expressed hope for further cooperation, as well as transfer of new editions of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" to the library's collection.
Irina Zheglova, General Director and Editor-in-Chief of "Komsomolskaya Pravda in St. Petersburg" CJSC, and Evgeny Sazonov, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Chief Editor of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" newspaper, told about the history of the periodical, modern newspaper columns, as well as famous correspondents of the editorial office and the celebration of the anniversary of "Komsomolskaya Pravda". He spoke via video link from Moscow.
Irina Zheglova donated to the Presidential Library a copy of Stanislav Goldfarb's book "Sungorkin, or How Komsomolskaya Pravda was tempered", which tells about the bright journalist, unique media manager and legendary editor-in-chief of Komsomolka Vladimir Nikolaevich Sungorkin (1954-2022) and about the history of the newspaper.
Maxim Kim, Doctor of Philology, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Communications of the Faculty of Social Technologies of the North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, told about Gennady Selyoznev (1947-2015), who was editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Uchitelskaya Gazeta, Pravda newspaper, lived a bright and rich not only journalistic but also political life, in particular, was elected Chairman of the State Duma for two convocations under the President of the Russian Federation.
The event was attended by teachers and students of the Faculty of Social Technologies of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the Youth Parliament of St. Petersburg, representatives of the Reserve Centre of the Presidential Library in Moscow, the National Centre of Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation.
In the Tyumen region, from the Golyshmanovskaya centralised library system, senior pupils from Golyshmanovskaya School No. 1 and Golyshmanovskaya School No. 2 joined the video lecture. The event was also attended by children from Zavodoukovskaya School No. 2, Zavodoukovskaya School No. 3, Sladkovskaya School, Gymnasium named after Litsman in Tobolsk. Litsman Gymnasium of Tobolsk.
The participants of the event had an opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. Irina Zheglova, General Director and Editor-in-Chief of "Komsomolskaya Pravda in St. Petersburg", awarded anniversary badges from "Komsomolskaya Pravda" for the best questions.
Electronic copies of Komsomolskaya Pravda issues for the period from the end of April to the beginning of May 1945, as well as individual articles dedicated to space exploration are available on the Presidential Library portal.
