Academic Council set up at the Presidential Library
The first meeting of the Academic Council of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library was held on November 30 2010. Its primary objective is to facilitate co-operation between the Presidential Library and other organizations in the areas of culture, science, and education.
The initial membership of the Academic Council brought together heads of the leading universities of Russia. The meeting attended by rectors of the St. Petersburg State University and the Northern (Arctic) Federal University took place at the Academic Council Hall at the Presidential Library; representatives of the Far-Eastern, North-Eastern, Siberian, Ural and Southern Federal Universities, despite difference in time, took part in the meeting via video conference.
High on the agenda of the meeting were possibilities of creation of e-databases focused on latest scientific research, implementation of telecommunications technologies in learning process and foundation of electronic reading rooms to provide access to information resources of the Presidential Library.
“The Presidential Library and Federal universities emerged at the same time. We have common work areas: integration of information resources and a necessity to make use of modern scientific and educational tools”, stressed Director General of the Presidential Library, and under its Charter, the Chairman of the Academic Council, Alexander Vershinin.
Within the framework of the meeting were reached decisions on increase of the Academic Council membership, standard documents covering information co-operation and also support in holding Olympiads in History and Social Studies with introduction of the Presidential Library’s state-of-the-art technologies.
