The Presidential Library summarized its two-year work

May 27, 2011 the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library celebrated its second anniversary. In the course of the events organized by the Library, the results of its work were summed up and development prospects in key areas of activity discussed.

The government addressed telegrams to the Presidential Library. Deputy Head of Presidential Administration of Russian Federation, A. D. Beglov, stressed that the library participates in the creation of the modern unified information environment of Russia. He wished the Presidential Library further success in carrying out its public mission.

Head of the Presidential Property Management Department of the Russian Federation V. I. Kozhin congratulated the leaders and staff of the library and noted that the Presidential Library, combining various activities, conducts an important work to build relevant, socially significant databases, replenishing them with sources. "In so doing, the library staff makes a great contribution to the preservation of the priceless heritage and plays an important role in the patriotic upbringing of the younger generation," - the telegram says.

The Presidential Library is actively involved in the creation of interregional and international branch network. It has already signed Co-operation Agreements with 14 Russian regions. Electronic Reading Rooms have been opened at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Beijing, Minsk, Baku, Ljubljana and Helsinki.

On the eve of its second anniversary the Presidential Library opened its first regional branch office in the Tyumen region. The work on the project began in September 2009 with the establishment of a regional Center of access to the resources of the Presidential Library on the basis of the D. I. Mendeleyev Regional Scientific Library of Tyumen.

A fruitful work on integration of information resources is being carried out. To date, the Presidential Library has over 70 partners - the sources of acquisition. Over the entire period of work 16 thematic collections were developed from the holdings of the Presidential Library, which are also available for viewing on the Library’s portal.

The Library has implemented its first projects - interactive Olympiad in national history for high school students "Russia in the digital world” and the photo contest "Foreigner view".

Over the past period over 11 000 people have attended socio-political, scientific, educational and cultural events organized by the Presidential Library.

As noted Director General A. P. Verschinin in his congratulatory speech at the meeting of the staff: "The number of activities will only increase, and the next year of the Presidential Library’s work will be dedicated to the theme "State power in the information society" or "E-government". This is the year of elections to which we should prepare fully, thoroughly and with all responsibility”.

Marking its anniversary the Presidential Library held a videoconference with fifteen federal universities from its student Electronic Reading Room, opened exactly a year ago at the Law Department of St. Petersburg State University.

The same day in the Library held culturological meeting with the heads of children's municipal institutions of further education. Library staff told about the purpose of creation of the Presidential Library, technical equipment and events ongoing within its walls. The meeting discussed the features of the first national digital library, its role and place in the formation of a unified informational environment of the Russian Federation.

May 27, 2009, on the All-Russian Library Day and the Day of St. Petersburg, the Russian President D. A. Medvedev inaugurated in St. Petersburg the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.
