Experts of military history were awarded at the Presidential Library
The closing ceremony of the XI International Olympiad for cadets of educational institutions of higher education in military history, organized by the A. V. Khrulev Military Academy of Logistical Support took place at the Presidential Library.
The ceremony of awarding the winners of the Olympiad was attended by Nikolai Pankov, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, heads of higher military educational institutions of St. Petersburg, workers of science, culture and art, and other guests of honor.
According to Nikolai Pankov, "throughout all stages of the Olympiad contestants demonstrated in-depth knowledge in various fields of military history. This indicates not only the quality of their education, but also the interest of young people in the history of their homeland. "
The main goal of the Olympiad is to motivate cadets and students to improve their professional knowledge, academic and creative abilities, as well as to train scientific and teaching staff of educational institutions. The competition, which was held during three days within the walls of the Military Academy, brought together over 200 cadets and students from 43 higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation and CIS countries. These were teams from military and civilian universities from 18 subjects of the Russian Federation from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, and of three CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.
The contestants were to show their knowledge of the history of wars and armed conflicts, the creation and use of weapons and military equipment, military traditions of the armies of CIS member-states, as well as the knowledge of prominent military figures, military leaders and commanders of the Russian army. "This year, according to Nikolai Pankov, the competition is timed to the 285th birthday anniversary of the great Russian commander Alexander Suvorov, whose name is very important for each professional military man. Never defeated in the battlefield, the founder of Russian military art, he taught by his own example the science of winning. Today we can also hold Alexander Suvorov up as an example of a person who had achieved public recognition by his own labor."
Experience of Alexander Suvorov and understanding of the importance of the proper organization of the army’s supply for military successes, embodied by him in heroic victorious military campaigns, gave a powerful impetus to the development of infrastructure of the logistical support. Suvorov had made an invaluable contribution to the development of Russia as a military power. The Presidential Library makes available on its website digital copies of research, scientific and popular publications, collections of documents and visual materials that reveal the life story of the outstanding military leader. Among them there are archival documents titled "Files of Suvorov Commission" dating from 1898-1910, a biographical sketch "Famous commander, His Serene Highness Prince Alexander Suvorov" of 1885.
The Presidential Library collections include a large number of books about military campaigns of Alexander Suvorov. Among them there is a 1846 publication by Modest Bogdanovich "Suvorov campaigns in Italy and Switzerland," a book by Nikolai Orlov "Analysis of Suvorov military operations in Italy in 1799" including maps and plans, "End of Poland and Suvorov" by Platon Geysman issued in 1900 and others.
Today, the successor of the glorious traditions of the home front laid by Generalissimo Suvorov is the A. V. Khrulev Military Academy of Logistics Support.
The active development of cooperation with military institutions is one of the priorities of the Presidential Library, because our army must not only have a full set of weapons, but also a large-scale, accurate knowledge of Russian history. The cooperation includes joint projects with the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg, Military Educational and Research Center of the Navy "N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy" and the opening of electronic reading rooms on the basis of military educational institutions.
In early May last year, the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Department of Affairs of the President of the Russian Federation and the Presidential Library signed a cooperation agreement.
Since then, 29 institutions of the Ministry of Defense have been provided with access to the resources of the Presidential Library and to our collection, which include today over 470, 000 units. Among them: the Military Educational and Research Center of the Navy "N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy" in St. Petersburg, the Black Sea P. S. Nakhimov Higher Naval Order of the Red Star School in Sevastopol, Moscow Cadet Corps “Boarding School for the Pupils of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation," Suvorov Military School in Moscow, Orenburg Presidential Cadet School. The joint work in this area will continue. Under the agreement, it is planned to provide all the universities and pre-university educational institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Defense with access to the resources of the Presidential Library.
