The historical magazine “Rodina” added to the Presidential Library stock

2 May 2017

Digital issues of the historical and popular science magazine Rodina have added to the Presidential Library stock according to a cooperation agreement between the library and the editorial staff of “Rossiyskaya Gazeta.” The issues of Rodina for 2017 can be flipped through on the Presidential Library website.

A theme of the January issue of popular historical edition is the discoverers: circumnavigators, industrialists, prospectors and scientists. The reader, in particular, will find out where Peter the Great opened the second window to Europe, who is considered the governor of Russian America, why the brilliant project of a pioneer of electronic computing has frightened the Soviet authorities. The February issue of “Rodina” is dedicated to the events that took place in Russia a hundred years ago: it contains the recollections of the witnesses of the February Revolution, political portraits of the leaders of A. F. Kerensky and V. I. Lenin, the details of the abdication of Nicholas II, news out of the papers from February 1917, and much more. Heroes of the third issue were I. Kramskoy, D. Likhachev, L. Andreev, V. Rasputin and E. Evtushenko, and others.

The objective of “Rodina” is not to describe the history of events, but to write the history of people. There is an individual at the heart of each material - a historical person or our contemporary, and our first priority is to make sure that this character is alive,” – Igor Kots, chief editor of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta and chief editor of Rodina magazine pointed out.

“Rodina” magazine today is following a tradition of popular scientific historical journalism, laid down by the creators of the eponymous pre-revolutionary edition in 1879. The modern edition comes out since January 1989 and invariably provides reader with a rich educational material. Its authors are well-known historians, archaeologists, writers, and publicists. A full-color glossy magazine, fully supplied with unique photographs and thorough illustrations, apart from professional historians is addressed to any reader who is not unresponsive to the issues of domestic and world history.

The Presidential Library and “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” are currently actively cooperating. A cooperation agreement was signed at the end of 2016, within the framework of which the “The “Rodina” magazine year 2016: historical events in personal stories” multimedia exhibition was held in the Presidential Library. Public video lecturing dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the 1917 revolution in Russia was held in February 2017. Currently, the latest issues of the historical and popular science edition are featured regularly in the building on 3 Senate Square.
