
A color scheme of the North Caucasus - in the fund of the Presidential Library
The official ceremony of honoring the authors of award winning photographs of the “Caucasus.doc” All-Russian photo competition, which was carried out from December 1, 2016, to February 28, 2017, with the support of the Presidential Library, the head and the government of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and the Union of Journalists of Russia took place today, on April 25, 2017, in Cherkessk. The contest was the first large-scale event of the first in the North Caucasus Outreach and Awareness-raising Center of the Presidential Library, which was launched last year on the basis of the “Arkhyz 24” Republican Television Channel of Karachay-Cherkessia.
The competition entries were accepted without any exceptions from photographers of professional level and amateur photography lovers. Overall, the organizers received about 3000 works. All submissions will add to the Presidential Library stock, which now numbers more than 500,000 units and will be publically accessible. So, the Presidential Library continues to build a unique source of information about the multinational culture and flair of the North Caucasus. In addition, one of this year’s nominations of the “Foreign View” VIII International Photo Competition of the Presidential Library will be focused on this region.
In total, 12 nominations were established to the extent of the “Caucasus.doc” photo contest. “Enchantment of the Caucasus” became one of the most popular. Participants were invited to share photos of the amazing nature of the North Caucasus. The jury of the photo contest highly appreciated the photo work of Arsen Alaberdov titled “The Sleeping Beauty Belalakaya.” Belalakaya Mountain has long been known as one of the best-known Caucasian landmarks, carte-de-visite of Dombai.
Apart from this, a special interest was demonstrated to the “The Caucasus: a Breath of History” nomination, which discloses for a wide audience photographs from private and family archives. For the careful attitude towards the past the jury picked out the image submitted by Khanafiy Hasanov. According to the author, a Russian photographer, orientalist, Ethnographer D. I. Ermakov took the picture sometime between 1883-1886. The negatives are retained on the territory of Georgia. On the photo are participants of the Crimean War.
Currently, the Presidential Library takes part in another All-Russian photo contest. The project “Siberia: how beautiful you are today!” is being realized along the path of work of the Outreach and Awareness-raising Center of the Presidential Library in the Tyumen Oblast. Among the of competition founders are also newspaper “The Tyumen Oblast Today” and “The Region-Tyumen” TV and radio company with the support of the oblast departments for public relations, communications and youth policy, subsurface resources management and ecology, as well as the consumer market and tourism.
