
The Presidential Library to participate in the book event of the Northern Capital for the seventh time
May 25, 2017 the XII St. Petersburg International Book Salon is launched. The Presidential Library will present more than 500,000 digital copies of archival materials, documents, film and photo chronicles from its electronic fund in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Library Society. The book salon will complete its work on May 28, 2017.
Within the framework of the joint stand, the Presidential Library specialists will tell about the work of electronic reading rooms, which are today in every region of Russia.
At the Book salon anyone can get acquainted with the digital collections of the Presidential Library. This year the library presented a large-scale collection "1917". It included electronic copies of archive files, rare books, research papers, letters, photographs, newsreels, diaries and many other valuable documents. All the collected materials are combined into thematic sections, which will appear on the the Presidential Library portal during the year. In addition, within the framework of the events timed to the Year of Ecology, announced in Russia in 2017, the Presidential Library began to create the electronic collection "The Natural Environment of Russia", dedicated to the problems of environmental preservation.
The Presidential Library actively participates in the formation of the electronic knowledge space in order to support Russian education and culture. Visitors of the Book salon will learn about the educational projects of the Presidential Library, which include multimedia lessons, the series of video lectures "Knowledge of Russia", etc. Traditionally the academic year in the Presidential Library opens the Knowledge Forum. This year the event will be held for the 8th time. Schoolchildren, first-year students, cadets of military educational institutions will take part in scientific, practical and educational activities. The platform for exchange of opinions of experts and fans of the cinema is cinema clubs of the Presidential Library. The monthly meetings are attended by representatives of the State Film Fund of Russia, the St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio “Lendok”, the Russian Institute of Art History, the Non-Gaming Cinema Guild, children's multimedia studios and many other organizations. Among the pupils of final classes of schools, lyceums and gymnasiums from September to March, the Presidential Library conducts an interactive Olympiad of schoolchildren on history, social studies and the Russian language "Russia in the electronic world". The Olympiad consists of three stages, two of which are held remotely, thanks to which students from different parts of Russia and foreign countries can participate in the project.
As part of the Book Salon, the Presidential Library will present its own collection "Holy Trinity Alexander Svirsky Monastery in Russian History and Culture". The publication is dedicated to the 510th anniversary of the founding of the monastery. The collection includes materials related to the visit of the Alexander-Svirsky Monastery by Patriarch Kirill and the holding of scientific readings in the Presidential Library dedicated to the anniversary of the monastery and its founder, the Monk Alexander Svirsky; scientific articles on hagiography and iconography, collection of documents on the history of the Alexander-Svirsky Monastery. It should be noted that a number of archival documents are published for the first time.
