The Presidential Library expands the educational space

“Secrets within the pages of “The tale of the fisherman and the fish” by A. S. Pushkin,” “The Little Tragedies” - a journey through time and space,” “The Golden Section, Fibonacci sequence and the Onegin stanza” - these and other research papers prepared with a help of the electronic resources of the Presidential Library, became the winners of the All-Russian Competition entitled “Just like young love, / Russia with its heart will never clean forget you” and dedicated to the life and creative work of Alexander Pushkin. The official ceremony of awarding its participants took place in the Presidential Library on June 6, 2017, the day of the 218th anniversary of the glorious Russian poet. 23 school students became the competition’s winners, and 74 more – its awardees.

Deputy Head of the Administration of Primorsky District of St. Petersburg Inessa Yevgeniyevna Volkova told: “The competition was initiated in 2015, but already in 2016, owing to cooperation with the Presidential Library, it became all-Russian, and we hope that in the future it will become international.” She also pointed out that among 900 works, submitted for the competition in 2017, were also the ones belonging to the kids from Kazakhstan and China.

Rare historical materials about the life and creative work of Alexander Pushkin can be found on the Presidential Library website in an extensive electronic collection dedicated to the poet. It included digital copies of books, articles, archival documents, video films, illustrations and much more.

School and university students – the participants in outreach and awareness raising and educational projects – are constant guests of the Presidential Library. The results of the Interregional Historical and Outreach Contest of Research and Creative Works named “Serving the Native Land: Events and Names,” happening within the framework of the same name project of the “Center for National Glory” Foundation, are regularly being summarized in the building on Senate Square. Along with the foundation, the Presidential Library also conducted a series of interactive “Kleyp-lessons” with an objective of developing interest in reading, independent learning the works of world and native literature, and all the treasures and variety of the Russian language.

The Presidential Library also continues its educational projects, the most large-scaled of which today is the Internet Olympiad of School Students named Russia in the Electronic World. This is a unique online competition, which is implemented using current multimedia technologies and the resources of the Presidential Library and is conducted jointly with the A. I. Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia.

The “Knowledge of Russia” is an outreach and public awareness project of the Presidential Library for high school and university students, focusing on in-depth social and liberal arts studies. Lecturing appearances of the leading Russian researchers are traditionally aired live on the Presidential Library website, where video recordings of these lessons can be found in open access Video lectures.

Since autumn 2013, multimedia lessons for school students are regularly going on in the Presidential Library. Among the subjects of these classes were such events as the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution, the Year of Literature in Russia, the Single Voting Day and other important public issues.

On September 1 the Presidential Library always invites everyone to the traditional Forum of Knowledge. The program includes a popular science conference, the “Knowledge of Russia” video lecture, the Cinema Club session of the Presidential Library, as well as a new series of multimedia lessons timed to the Year of Ecology and the Year of Specially Protected Natural Territories, which are announced in the Russian Federation in 2017.
