The Presidential Library develops a regional network in the Ugra territory
The fourth in region center of access to the resources of the Presidential Library opened today, June 8, 2017, in the Urai city of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. The remote electronic reading room was organized on the basis of the “Kultura” municipal autonomous institution. Its creation was made possible owing to cooperation agreement between two institutions that was signed on June 1, 2017.
Representatives of the state authorities, science, education, culture, healthcare, commercial organizations, museum and archive business, staff employees of public, religious organizations, mass media took part in the official opening ceremony.
In his welcoming speech, Director of the Presidential Library’s branch in the Tyumen Oblast Oleg Shor told that the centers of access to the information resources of the Presidential Library successfully function today on the basis of the Ugra State Library and the Institute for the Development of Education in Khanty-Mansiysk, as well as in the Uraisk Polytechnic College.
The remote centers of the Presidential Library provide the residents of the region with an access to unique audio and video sources, archival materials, some rare printed editions of the library, which collection currently numbers more than 500 thousand units.
Particular attention during stock acquisition is paid to the development of regional collections, one of which is dedicated to the history of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Ugra. The collection includes the studies, archival, statistical, visual and audio materials of the late XVIII – the early XXI century, describing the administrative, socio-economic and cultural situation in the region. Of particular interest are a few rare books on indigenous nations: At Voguls: the essays and sketches (1904), Anthropological sketch about Ostyaks of the Surgut Krai (1890), Voguli-Mansi: a historical and ethnographic sketch (1904).
An establishment and development of cooperation with the regions is one of the first priorities of the Presidential Library. A creation of unified regional network, which connected all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, was completed in 2016. To date, more than 300 centers of access to the resources of the Presidential Library operate across the country.
