“The Wilderness of Russia” photography exhibition opened in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in London

“The Wilderness of Russia” unique photography exhibition opened in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in London. It is timed to the Year of Especially Protected Natural Territories and the Year of Ecology in Russia. Photographers from different countries visited the most beautiful places of our country and did a grandiose work so now the lovers of nature could see with their own eyes the amazing landscapes and exciting storylines from the life of wild animals. Guests of the exhibition saw pictures of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve (Biosphere Reserve), the Koryak Nature Reserve, the South Kamchatka Federal Wildlife Sanctuary named after T. I. Shpilenok, and other major Russian reserves.

The representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Great Britain Anton Chesnokov opened the evening with a welcoming speech. Famous British cinematographer Stephen Polyakoff, a jury member of a special environmental contest held as part of the Russian Cinema Week in London, spoke about the ongoing project to protect the Amur tigers. The Ambassador of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a laureate of the “Leaders for a Living Planet” award Gilda Navidi-Walker attended the exhibition.

The reserved nature of Russia is the national pride and treasure. Today, the total area of all specially protected natural areas of Russia is 11.4% of the country's total area of 206.7 million hectares. The number of bison, Far Eastern leopards and Amur tigers is being restored in the protected areas, the habitats of polar bears have been cleaned out of daily trash and household waste in the open spaces of the Arctic, traditional crafts of minor nations, whose life is inseparable from the wild life, are currently reviving.

There is the electronic collection on Natural Wealth of Russia on the Presidential Library website, which included materials on the history of the discovery, study, development and protection of natural resources of Russia. The special section contains information on the history of natural reserves, sanctuaries (zakazniks) and other protected areas. The “Red Books” of all constituent entities of the Russian Federation are exposed within the same name block of the “Plant and Animal Life” section.
