Early Russian animation was presented in London
The Russian Center for Science and Culture in London hosted a lecture on early Russian animation and animation films.
The project is an attempt to recreate and rethink the experience of Russian and Soviet cinemas of the early XX century. For this event it was chosen eight animated short films, created in Russia in 1912-1929. Not very well-known films of that period were shown.
The exciting and innovative aspect of the show is the original soundtrack. Especially for this project, Russian musicians working in electronic genre created soundtracks.
Alexander Bazarkin, one of the curators of the project, told about the key figures in the world of animation and their works in the early XX century, the pre-revolutionary pioneers-multipliers of the Russian Empire and art collectives that created the first animation studios in the Soviet Union.
Within the framework of the project, an exhibition of film posters for all the films of the program was held. Invited artists created new posters for each film in different styles.
The Presidential Library portal features electronic collection "To the Year of Russian Cinema". It included official documents, studies, a variety of visual materials (posters, postcards, etc.), revealing various aspects of the development of Russian cinema since the beginning of the XX century, as well as dedicated to individual films and actors of Russian and Soviet cinema. Preparing the collection there were used materials from the Lenfilm studios, the Russian Institute of the History of Arts, the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Historical Archive, the Russian Book Chamber, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the State Public Historical Library, the M. Gorky Vladimir Regional Universal Scientific Library, the N. K. Krupskaya Moscow Regional State Scientific Library, the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, the radio station "Our Radio", the N. V.
