The Presidential Library contributes to the rapprochement of the cultures between Russia and Germany
The Presidential Library and the German-Russian Institute of Culture in Dresden have outlined new cooperation prospects. In 2018, a large-scale project of photographic heritage of Bulla dynasty will be presented at the site of the foreign partner: Karl and his sons. This was announced at the round table "Photo View on Russia: From the Origins to Our Days" as part of the grand opening of the exhibition "Russia's Spaces in Color Photography by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky". The event was held in the format of the Saint-Petersburg-Dresden space bridge.
Karl Bulla - the founder of the Russian photo essay, he gained wide popularity due to his photographs, which depicted members of the royal family, the life of the capital Petrograd. Sons of Karl, Victor and Alexander, continued their father’s work.
The legacy of the Bulla dynasty is a unique chronicle of the Russian history of the turn of the XIX and XX centuries and soon it will be presented in the electronic library of the Presidential Library. Currently, the library and the Karl Bulla Historical Photography Foundation are working together to prepare for the digitization of Bulla dynasty's artistic heritage.
The project of the Presidential Library and the German-Russian Institute of Culture in Dresden, which was presented on November 1, 2017 - the exhibition of the first color photographs of the Russian Empire by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky - is available for visitors to the German city. The exposition will be open until January 15, 2018.
According to the Consul General of Russia in Leipzig Andrey Dronov, "this exhibition is unique, it gives an opportunity to see what the Russian Empire looked like a hundred years ago. Prokudin-Gorsky documented the history of Russia at the beginning of the XX century".
The exposition includes 40 works by the founder of color photography, the well-known chemist Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky. In total, about 2,000 digitized images of the master were collected in the electronic library of the Presidential Library. To date, this is the most complete collection of Prokudin-Gorsky's works in Russia.
