A training seminar for primary school teachers from different settlements of the Penza region was held in the Lermontov Penza Regional Library
On the first day of winter, teachers of primary classes of schools in the Penza region gathered together for a training seminar at the regional center of the Presidential Library, which operates on the basis of the Lermontov Penza Regional Library.
At the beginning of the event, a video was shown about the Presidential Library, which tells about its tasks, the process of digitizing books and archival materials and about the main collections. Teachers learned that the resource serves the development of the rule of law, the education of patriotism and citizenship. The Presidential Library also supports educational processes.
During the practical lesson, school teachers assessed the volume of the Presidential Library funds. Particular attention was attracted to local history materials included in the collection "Penza region: pages of history". The collection includes archival documents, essays and studies on the demographic, geographical and social aspects of the history of the Penza region at the end of the XVIII century and the first third of the XX century. The participants noted that the information from the book "Penza Province" by I. F. Kuzmin in 1985 can be used for conducting extra-curricular lessons.
In connection with the approaching winter holidays, the employees of the regional center drew attention to the historical information in the section "On This Day", which tells about the celebration of the New Year. Until the end of the XVII century, this feast was celebrated on September 1, until December 20, 1699, Peter I issued a decree "On the New Year's Eve", which ordered the calculation of the years not "from the creation of the world" but from the Nativity of Christ, from September 1, and from January 1, as in many European countries. This entertaining fact of the teacher can be used in conducting thematic lessons and activities.
The seminar was ended with a sightseeing tour through the Lermontov Penza Regional Library. The guests got familiar with the structural units of the library, its functional capabilities, and also learned about the events held by the library for schoolchildren. Of particular interest there was the department of rare books, where teachers watched valuable publications stored in “Lermontovka”.
The cooperation of the Presidential Library with the Penza region has been developing since 2012.
