
Zavodoukovsk school students got familiar with the capacities of the Presidential Library
Today, on December 13, 2017, the winners of the “Human Rights as Viewed by Youth” All-Russian Movie-reel Competition among School and University Students from Zavodoukovsk High School № 2 have visited one of the main sights of St. Petersburg, the historic building of the Holy Synod, which currently accommodates the premises of the Presidential Library.
This architectural monument of the second quarter of the XIX century these days is the largest multifunctional information, research, educational, cultural and outreach cluster. More than 150 events of the most varied format are being held annually at the facilities of the Presidential Library. Among them — press conferences of the heads of public authorities, book presentations, training seminars, international congresses, forums, summits and much more.
Young guests of the library visited the electronic reading room, which provides access to the digital copies of unique materials reflecting the centuries-old history of Russian statehood, theory and practice of law, as well as the history of the Russian language as the state language of Russia. Students will be able to get acquainted with them in Zavodoukovsk High School № 2, where a library access center to about 600,000 items of storage was launched.
In addition, the students of Zavodoukovsk High have visited the conference atrium and multimedia level-transformer. While the exhibition halls of the Presidential Library made a most of all impressed them. In one of these spaces the sightseers observed the exposition dedicated to the Year of Ecology. In another, owing to up-to-date multimedia equipment, they could virtually flip through the pages of the one and only duplicate of the inauguration copy of the Constitution, which the President of Russia personally handed over to on the library on its opening day May 27, 2009.
Familiarity with the institution continued with a dialog about educational projects. The Presidential Library successfully implements and continuously improves work with the younger generation in several formats. Important events relating to the history of Russia and formation of its statehood are revealed in the cycle of public video lecturing. In addition, school and university students, cadets of military schools annually participate in scientific, practical and educational events over the course of the already traditional Knowledge Forum. Movie lovers meet for screenings and discussions in the Presidential Library Cinema Club. Among its regular participants are representatives of the State Film Fund of Russia, the “Lendok” St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studios, the Russian Institute of Art History, the Guild of Nonfiction Cinematography, children’s multimedia studios and other organizations. Participation in many events is possible either in presence or via video-conferencing mode at the access centers to the resources of the Presidential Library.
Another project without borders is an interactive Olympiad on History, Social Studies and the Russian Language “Russia in the electronic world,” where students from entire Russia and abroad can challenge their knowledge. The Olympiad consists of three stages, two of which are held remotely.
At the end of their visit, students from Zavodoukovsk took a multimedia class on the Year of Ecology in Russia and the Year of Specially Protected Natural Territories. In this class the children learned a lot about the nature reserves of our country, the Red Book, as well as the current problems in the field of environmental protection. Electronic vote, various tests and other exciting tasks were waiting for high school students at the end of class.
Multimedia Ecology classes a free and available until December 28, 2017. They are one hour long. Students of senior classes of educational institutions of St. Petersburg and oblast can take them.
