The feat of the Leningraders - in the multimedia materials of the Presidential Library

27 January 2018

The history of the 900-day blockade of Leningrad and its breakthrough can be seen in audio-visual materials presented in the collection of the Presidential Library "Defene and the blockade of Leningrad". For example, you can see the fragments of the newsreel "The Defence of Leningrad. Blockade of Leningrad", which shows not only the cadres of military operations reflecting the heroic staunchness of the soldiers of the Leningrad front, but also details the life of the blockaded city: the icy "Aurora" and St. Isaac's Cathedral, empty snow-covered streets, Leningraders, who are recruiting water in the ice-hole, a convoy of vehicles on the "Road of Life," its shelling ... The text behind the scenes reads: "A strong and cunning enemy conceived a monstrous crime: strangle the famine, wipe the Nevsky stronghold off the face of the earth. But nothing could break the courage and determination of Soviet people. Everyone was a fighter". Civil everyday life of the city at different stages of the blockade is also presented in the chronicle-documentary film "Blockade" directed by Sergei Loznitsa, located in the Presidential Library.
